Vice President of External Organizing

            Adrienne Enghouse, RN

Critical Care Float, KSMC

Adrienne has been an RN for 16 years, and a critical care float nurse at Kaiser Sunnyside for about 7 of those. Adrienne is an avid marathon runner and is married with three sons and four rescue dogs. She is active with the union because "It's in my nature to speak up for those who are too intimidated or afraid to speak up for themselves. This was my way to help."

Vice President of Leadership Development

            Kathy Schmidt, RN
Critical Care Float, KSMC

Kathy has been an RN for the past 32 years. She is currently employed in a float position at KSMC, providing care for the patients in the Critical Care Arena. She was hired into the Intensive Care Unit in 1978.

While working in that position, she became active with her colleagues in learning about collective bargaining and the search for a union to represent the RNs in the Kaiser Northwest region. She was a member of the organizing committee that chose the AFT as our national union and after winning union elections in both the hospital and the clinic, served on the 1979 bargaining team that negotiated the landmark first contract for the RNs.

In 1981, she was elected as OFNHP President and went on to serve until 2001 when she accepted a National Coordinator position with the Coalition of Kaiser Permanente Unions. During her tenure as OFNHP President, she was the spokesperson for all the contract negotiations for OFNHP RNs, including the 1988 contract that brought the 58-day RN strike to an end. In 1992, she supported organizing the Kaiser Techs and Registered Dental Hygienists into OFNHP and negotiated the initial contracts for both groups. The last local contract negotiation she coordinated was in 2001 for the 900 members of the Kaiser NW Pro group, who had voted to join OFNHP.

While OFNHP President, Kathy also developed the role of the OFNHP steward and mentored hundreds of new leaders as they learned to unify their colleagues in achieving and enforcing excellent contracts. She looks forward to mentoring the next generation of union leaders to carry that important body of work forward.

Vice President of Legislative & COPE

            Amanda Hill, TECH
Dispensing Optician, BVT

Amanda has been an optician with Kaiser for 15 years, and has been active with OFNHP in many capacities. Recently, she held the position of VP of the TECH bargaining unit, and she also sits on the planning committee for the Oregon AFL-CIO's very popular Summer School program.

Vice President of Publications

            Nancy Amstad-Hite (DeVore), RN

Kaiser Home Health for Continuing Care Services

Nancy has worked as an RN at Kaiser since 1985. She started as a staff RN at KSMC and continued in an on-call capacity until December 2008. She has worked for Kaiser Home Health for Continuing Care Services for 15 years.

Nancy has valuable bargaining experience. She was one of two nurses who bargained the original contract for Home Health/CCS in 2000, writing the original language for this department. She has been a steward since that time. Home Health/CCS is a strong multidisciplinary steward group who have been able to make many advances. Nancy has also worked well with other members outside of her bargaining unit and feels she is able to represent all of her union brothers and sisters.

Vice President of Retirees
Dave Charlton, PRO
Mental Health Therapist TUA

Dave has spent his entire career as a mental health therapist with Kaiser, having started with the company in 1985. Dave got started with the union early on, and says he was branded a "union radical" from the very beginning because he had the audacity to ask about union representation during his interview!

Dave lives on a five-acre farm with his wife, where he raises Dorper sheep and enjoys gardening and fishing.
